Our Journey

In 2018, we teamed up to invest in startups but found drawbacks to investing with traditional angel investor groups. Some problems:

1. Slow angel group processes caused us to miss great startups.

2. Few investors committed after asking tons of questions, leaving startups disheartened.

3. Since only a small subset of investors invested, the exit celebrations were limited to only a few.

We met Dean Rosenberg while searching for solutions. He had faced similar challenges in San Diego and had transitioned a traditional angel model into a pooled investment model called NuFund.

Inspired, we decided to start The Bond. Our goal is simply to build a community of like-valued investors that:

1. Respects both startups and our members.

2. Quickly makes & communicates yes or no investment decisions.

3. Allows us to invest a larger check, attracting better deals, by pooling our money.

4. Lets us all share in the learning, the ups, and the downs, as a united group.

5. Keeps operating costs low so fees don’t eat into our shared returns.
